It’s not often that I can boast about being a “style leader,” so when it happens, I will brag. Several years ago, I was researching fonts for a special project for a friend and “discovered” Montserrat. It was love at first sight—and I downloaded the font to my MacBook.
Today, Fiverr and Fiverr Logo Maker announced that Montserrat was its “Font of the Year” for 2024. The company analyzed the logos most purchased on Fiverr Logo Maker, surveyed freelance designers, and determined that Montserrat was at the forefront of brand design heading into 2024.
Nadav Barkan, Fiverr’s VP of Design, explains: “Montserrat is a fan favorite thanks to its clean geometric lines and modern aesthetic. It has a wide range of weights and styles—so it’s super versatile. And it has both form and function.” He adds that it’s a “go-to choice” for companies that want to “contemporize their visual language.”
Poppins was another popular font, coming in third with people who purchased fonts on the Logo Maker and Logo Maker designers. But the number two fonts in those categories differed, showing that the fonts designers like best aren’t necessarily the top-sellers. Bellefair was the second most popular font purchased but ranked 31st among designers.
Julieta Ulanovsky, Montserrat’s designer, says she was inspired by “old posters and lettering on signs in the traditional Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires.”
Montserrat is part of Google’s catalog of open-source fonts and, according to Google, has been used in more than 20 million websites.
