How Small Businesses Help the Community: 9 Real-Life Examples

4 Mins read

From donating stuffed animals to putting energy into a variety of causes, here are nine answers to the question, “Can you share any examples of how your small business helps the community?”

Donated Stuffed Animal to Kids

This Christmas, a local networking group set out to raise 10,000 stuffed animals for children in need. Our business, Motivosity, donated 500 Yeti stuffed animals as part of the event and to support families in the community.

Since our company mascot is a Yeti, we created these plushies to give out at conferences and events, and being able to share some of them with kids in need was such a great way to help our community!

Helped Ukraine Refugees During a Trip to Warsaw

In 2022, we leveraged our business trip to Warsaw (we’re based in Bialystok) to set up a free document printing platform for Ukrainian refugees who were arriving by the hundreds of thousands at that point.

Provided Solutions to Women With PCOS

“Got PCOS? We’ve Got Your Back.” Those are the first words people read when they visit our website, and that’s exactly what we offer.

We give women who are suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome a roadmap to better health and a less-complicated life. We have noted physicians and dietitians on staff who provide customers with treatment solutions.

According to studies, PCOS affects one in every 10 women of reproductive age, so it is a very common hormonal disorder. We provide care plans designed to address various symptoms, including weight gain, irregular periods, hair loss, etc. Millions of women around the world deal with PCOS, and our aim is to help as many of those women as possible-and we’ve been successful.

“Allara’s experts have helped me prioritize my health in a truly holistic way,” one customer wrote on our webpage. We post those comments regularly, urging more women to try our services.

Assisted Refugees and Volunteered at a Dog Shelter

Trixi and Tiffany are two of the Mailbutler team members who are actively involved in helping social causes alongside their work. They have integrated their passion for making a positive impact into their daily routines.

Trixi, for example, supports a local organization that helps Ukrainian refugees integrate into society by offering German language classes and cultural workshops. Tiffany, on the other hand, volunteers at a dog shelter (she even adopted one) and takes part in various fundraising events for different charities throughout the year.

Proactively Taught Financial Literacy

It’s part of our tradition to promote financial literacy in our locality. As a thriving FinTech company, we want to help as many people as possible to become financially literate and independent.

We accomplish this by encouraging our employees to volunteer in a social outreach where we teach the basics of handling finances and identifying good debts from bad ones. Every year, we target event attendees who are willing to learn and positively start their financial journey.

We understand that executing this event requires time and effort, so we provide our employees with paid time off on those days when they take part in the event. We do this not just to encourage volunteering among our employees, but also to strengthen their social connections and create a lasting impact on the financial mindset of the surrounding people.

Gave Back

I work for a 5th-generation family business in the sleep-wellness industry. It’s based in South Florida, and the team volunteers to help support local organizations in our community. We call it our “Give Back” program to find ways we can make a difference.

An example was how our employees volunteered with the Greater Hollywood Junior Chamber-Jaycees for the annual back-to-school free shopping day, which helped children obtain their school supplies for the upcoming school year. We also donate a lot of sleep-wellness products to local shelters and nonprofit organizations, as everyone deserves a good night’s rest.

Supported Sustainable Practices

One way in which we endeavor to help the community is by supporting sustainable practices in our industry. We strive to support workers throughout the supply chain, especially farmers and direct plantation workers. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do, so we feel it’s important to advocate for pay recognition and workers’ rights.

We also want to help protect the planet, which is beneficial for everyone in our community and beyond. Our respect for the earth has led us to take a stand against wasteful methods of coffee brewing and to back the #KillTheKCup campaign.

We provide insights, information, and advice for those seeking a more eco-friendly, ethical existence. For the benefit of every member of our community, we also seek to encourage a more conscious approach to coffee consumption. We believe that by focusing on education, engagement, and awareness, we can help our community to make mindful choices that have a positive impact on themselves and the world.

Pledged to Sustainability

We display our pledge to support the environment by supporting local communities. Recently, we have partnered with various organizations such as fundraising organizations, Home Hardware and Ace Hardware stores, and others to donate our Eco-Strips laundry detergent to those in need.

We also have teamed up with Ocean Wise for shoreline cleanup programs. We believe we can help our oceans and make them better for current and future generations. Finally, we promise to donate 32 laundry loads to families in need across the globe when first-time subscriptions are purchased.

At Tru Earth, we know many small hinges can swing very, very big doors.

Built a Community Action Program

We have shown our commitment to the community through our Community Action Program. Through this program, we are involved in various projects to positively impact those who live in Tampa Bay and its surrounding areas.

To further help our local youth, we also support the Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation, which teaches local youth the sport of sailing. We have also partnered with Make-A-Wish® of Southern Florida to grant wishes that change the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

On top of this, KFB Law also provides scholarship opportunities for students. Our scholarship assists those who continue their educational journey, and it awards one applicant a $1,000 academic scholarship to go towards their educational expenses.
