Last week I told you that retail revenues were soaring. Recent data from Shopkick, a shopping rewards app, shows consumers are already mapping out their holiday shopping game plan.
Some key findings about holiday shopping:
General Trends
- 81% of shoppers plan to utilize shopping rewards apps and/or coupons
- 38% plan to shop before Halloween & 44% will begin before Thanksgiving
- 60% will take sustainability into account when holiday shopping
Spending
- 39% will spend less on holiday shopping & 17% plan to spend more
- 79% say sales and promotions will influence them the most
- Other influencers: ads (22%) and in-store holiday decor (18%)
Black Friday Shoppers
- 37% say they plan to shop on Black Friday
- 20% plan to shop on Cyber Monday
- 40% of Gen X, 38% of baby boomers, 18% of millennials & 3% of Gen Z will shop on Black Friday
Online or In-Store
- 50% of consumers will shop in-store & 50% will shop online
Free Shipping is a Must
- 84% of shoppers say free shipping and returns are the most important incentives when it comes to shopping online
- Other online shopping incentives: fast shipping (46%), flexible and extended return policies (36%), “buy now, pay later” (20%) & “buy online, pick up in-store” (12%)
What Will They Buy?
- Apparel: 55%
- Toys & video games: 44%
- Home: 36%
- Electronics: 36%
- Beauty: 23%
- Experiences (concert tickets, travel vouchers, etc.): 16%
- Wellness & fitness: 13%
